Mark was called to the English bar in 1994 before qualifying as a Jersey Advocate in 2001 along with Natalie. Formerly with Mourant and then Carey Olsen, in 2005, Mark founded Jersey law firm Hanson Renouf, which merged to become Benest Corbett Renouf (now BCR Law) in 2015. He joined Noirmont in 2019. He has over 25 years’ experience as a litigator.
Member of the Institute of Directors since 2003 and the Association of Contentious Trust and Probate Specialists since 2006.
He has been listed as a leading individual in his field by the Legal 500, Chambers & Partners and other legal directories for at least 10 years.
Areas of expertise include trust law (both contentious and non-contentious), contentious probate, professional negligence (in particular related to building and construction), cross-border insolvency, company litigation, urgent applications for injunctive relief, regulatory (including competition law) and contractual disputes.
He has appeared in many of the leading trust cases to come before the Island’s courts. These include the very well-known case of Mubarik v Mubarak, regarding enforcement against Jersey trusts, in which the Jersey Court of Appeal praised Mark for his “… ability to respond … with clarity, precision and thoroughness”. Other leading Jersey trust cases he has appeared in includes Re Freiburg (leading case on Protectors); Re Sesemann (Leading case re Rectification of trusts) and many others.
